LONDON — In a bold initiative to address urban growth and housing needs, three prominent developers, York Developments, Copp Realty, and C-Cubed Holdings, have announced plans to convert a substantial 25-hectare plot of industrial land in the Hyde Park area into a residential community.
The proposal envisions over 1,000 new homes, marking a significant shift from the site’s current industrial designation to a thriving residential neighbourhood.
The development site, located at 1790 to 1848 Blue Heron Drive, 1510 and 1568 Woodcock Street, 1605 Woodcock Place, and 1640 Fanshawe Park Road, currently designated for commercial industrial use, is poised for a transformative change.
Council and city staff are advising for low-density built form while the developers are proposing a much different plan for the three sites.
The sites are proposed to feature a mix of fourplexes, stacked townhomes up to four storeys, and mid-rise apartment buildings up to eight storeys.
The built forms the developers are proposing are equivalent to medium-density for the subject lands to maximize the site’s potential.
The Hyde Park area is particularly suited for this type of development, with its extensive space and existing infrastructure poised to support a large influx of residents.
The Planning and Environment Committee will review the proposal in an upcoming meeting, where detailed plans and public feedback will play crucial roles in refining and finalizing the development.
More details are expected to be released as the development continues through the planning process.
